Without being racist, but do you think a black man would make a good James Bond or has it become one of those Traditional British things that we want our secrete spy to remain, erm traditonally British?

Again no offence meant and sorry for any caused.

From the books James Bond is half Scottish, half Swiss.
The character has ALWAYS been portrayed as being white and should continue to be. Changing the ethnicity of a fictional character under the grounds of political correctness is not only stupid but petty. There are more important matters to consider regarding race relations than whether Bond is White or Black. How would you resolve that into the narrative storyline? Genetic manipulation by Blofeld? Changing M into a women was plausible and believable and may I say Dame Judi Dench has done a remarkable job, but coming out turning Bond black would be a farcical, unbelievable storyline. If you want a more inclusive Bond film give Robinson a more prominent role, that guy is cool as and epitomises the traditional British role you mentioned (I thought he was great in Alien Vs. Predator too, not so much in Resident Evil). Alternatively create a whole new character and film franchise. The desert of ideas that is Hollywood lately could do with a shot in the arm, just don't create a new Triple X type character.

sorry but i need to say that not all white men can take black men role, so i guess it is better that James Bond should be white with dark hair as Ian fleming said. I don't really like the latest James Bond since he is blonde, but then again I don't watch the movie anyway.
Can you imagine a white man playing Blade? I think Wesley is just the right person to play it... I'm sure you know what I mean. There are already Australian actors played 007 before, not only British - but honestly I think Eric Bana fits 007 description rather than Craig but I guess he doesnt have English accent so Craig won. I just can't imagine Craig being 007, while he played well as antagonist - why can't he just stay there where he did well?

M here....I just wanted to share with you all the kerfuffle I had to deal with taking up this post after my male predecessors.....caused quite a bit of bother....esp in the executive toilets in MI6.

Honestly ppl, there was such a hoo-hah when I employed James recently....he had blonde hair....and the rugged looks of Steve McQueen.... and a lot of you thought it wouldn't work. Moneypenny, that floosy, threatened to quit and publish her fantasies, I mean memoirs. So no, James will not be a black man anytime soon....my heart couldn't take it.

And besides our caucasionally challenged brothers can always portray Shaft. And I do believe someone here suggested Bond should be American....hahaha....as if that could ever happen. Next thing you know they'll be giving the Queen a green card. Oh got to go, it's tea time. Cheerio.

Do you think a white man would be a good Ray Charles if they did another movie about him? He is a preexisting character that is white. I suppose they could do what they did with Eddie Murphy in the movie Coming to America in which he played a white man for one of his roles though. I don't think James Bond should ever be played by a non white man because he is white. You can't suddenly say in the middle of a story that his skin color changed for no apparent reason and any reason they could come up with would make a terrible plot so why change it? There is nothing wrong with him being white just like there is nothing wrong with Jules Winnfield being black. Jules Winnfield is a character in Pulp Fiction that was played by Samuel L. Jackson and if there was ever another movie with him in it and he wasn't black (well, if he wasn't Samuel L. Jackon actually) then that would be just as stupid as a black Bond.

Yeah, I think a black man would be an amesome james bond. I'm not just saying it b/c I'm black. There are plenty of cool, suave black heroes like Shaft. He was a bad mother-shut yo mouth. I just talking about Shaft. He He. Anyway, all the black james bond needs is that Shaft like personality, good looks, and a British accent, which can be a big turn on by the way. maybe we'll get to see one in the near future.

There are plenty of black actors who could play James Bond, but as you say,it has turned traditional for a white actor to be Bond.
I would like to see someone like Cuba Gooding Jr,play the role, with Samuel L Jackson as the bad guy.

If they didn't marry him in Majesties Secret Service with George Lazenby you could have had a different James bond as long as he was a British agent played only by a British actor then it wouldn't have matter.

No not really - but there's no reason a Bondesque film with a British black spy couldn't be done - it just wouldn't really work as Bond. It would have to be something new.

Yes I think a black man could make a great James Bond

Ever heard of a Black British actor called Colin Salmon? He played David Tyrell in "Hex".

Pierce Brosnan himself has suggested Salmon as an excellent Bond candidate.

He's very handsome, suave, debonair, gentlemanly, sophisticated and sexy, would suit the Bond persona down to a tee. He already has played a role (an MI6 agent called "Charles Robinson") in some of the Bond films (he's in Casino Royale) although he has been put forward several times as a candidate for a black Bond. I think he'd be fantastic.

I don't think they should change the persona of Bond though - an American street wise jive talking type of character (Will Smith or Martin Lawrence or Samuel L Jackson for example) would just go against what Bond is supposed to be - a very suave British secret agent. But you can be suave, British and Black!

Bond should stay British but could of course be British and black!!!

I say Colin Salmon for a Black Bond! Check him out:

He's gorgeous with a VERY sexy voice!!!

James Bond should be played by Wesley Snipes. He can use the same line he used in that airplane movie Passenger 57.. "Always bet on black" at the roulette wheel. That would be classic. James Bond should be American also.
