I think it's disgusting that she sings about such "mature" things. She's only like 15 and singing as if she knows what the high road is. She was 13 when she sang about cheating boyfriends. What the hell does she or girls her age know about all that?
It pisses me off that she's marketed towards girls her age yet she sings songs like that. All it does is make little girls think that boyfriends are everything. You can obviously tell by looking around here.
A song off of her new CD disgusts me "How To Touch A Girl."
She's not even close to 18!

That is so ******* sickening. Is this what people honestly want their preteen listening to? What do you think?

So, since there are SOME children fornicating and having children, it's okay that sex should be marketed toward that age group?

I'm 15 and JoJo's songs are innocent compared to some of the things that people my age talk about and do...A lot of the people who are my age aren't virgins anymore..at least where I live..And a lot of us starting dating back in 3rd grade...

It is unsettling-- few parents live in a fantasy world where teenagers don't have sex or take drugs. That's not the point. I agree that it's inappropriate for this stuff to be brought into the marketplace the way it is.
All we as parents can control is what comes into our house. I have a 13, 9, 4 and 2 yr old. They have little to no computer access, no TVs in their rooms and I monitor what music they have in my house. I'm a big proponent of free speech-- all musicians (I won't call them all "artists" because most of them are not) have a right to record whatever they want to-- that's America. I have a right to keep my kids from buying it. If they buy something I disapprove of, I take it away.
That said-- my kids have great taste in music because I've played them good stuff all growing up. We have a steady stream of Bob Marley, Chuck Berry and the Beatles at the house-- and the kids all love it. There's plenty of newer artists too, but I'm careful of how it comes in.
One thing I sensed in your note that I agree with: I'm much more concerned about bad themes than I am about bad words. I find that the novelty of a curse word is really more interesting than the adult themes that are out there-- the kids don't really understand the adult themes anyway. I let some 4-letter words into the house, but try to keep out the adult-themed stuff. So far so good.

she has said she learned about all the heartbreak and stuff from the playground. getting her heart broken by boys she liked and such. but i believe that's a little different than the actual emotion that is involved in the songs she sings. but there are plenty of girls her age who not only have experienceed that, but have experienced way more too youn.

While I agree with you, these same kids listen to hip-hop and rap as well, with some of the artists being young teens, and the lyrics they "sing" aren't simply suggestive and speak of worse things than JoJo is doing. Your complaints should include them while you're at it.

"What the hell does she or girls her age know about all that?"
That's just it. She probably wouldn't have a clue had it not been for the staff of songwriters & producers who Gave it to her to sing.
This sort of act to me, crystalizes what's wrong w/ much of today's pop music.
