The book, The Golden Compass is the first book in a three book a series ( that's how you spell it). The second book is, The Subtle Knife (pronounsed suttle) and the third book is my favorite, The Amber Spyglass.
These books are about a girl named Lyra and her world. In her world everyone is linked with a Deamon, (Like a spiritual bond.) and her father went missing on one of his expiditions and now she lives at Jordon College. Untill someone tries to poison the Master of Jordon and she's the only one who knows about it.
It's really a love, comedy, adventure fantasy book but I love it and I think you will too.

My little sister is a big fan of Meg Cabot, author of "The Princess Diaries."

I'd recommend "Jane Eyre" by Chalotte Brontë and "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, as well.
