what is the diference between atx and btx?

BTX is smaller, better air flow and reduces the strain on your motherboard caused by heavy heatsinks and other hardware that puts weight on it.

BTX is not actually smaller. ATX comes in a few different flavors as well. BTX is a standard developed by Intel to facilitate in better cooling of the CPU and components while reducing noise. The general idea is the fan is mounted at the front of the case and the layout of the motherboard is designed in such as way as cool air blows across all components and out the back of the case. The smallest BTX boards are called picoBTX but that's not part of the question.
