Since I talk to my dog all the time, I'm going to say no. For example, every time I get on the phone my dog starts acting up, just like a toddler, lol. I often have to excuse myself from the conversation and tell her to chill. Since I only ever really hang out with other "dog people" I figured they understand.

I'd rather be talking to my dog than to somebody. He is much more intelligent than the majority of the human race.

That is about as rude as it gets. I love love love animals, but people come first. I even had my doggy trained never to walk through a door until all the people went through first. She would politely wait till every one went through then follow. Animals need to be taught their place in the "pack". Some people need to as well. Such as people that would be rude enough to do what you described.
