excuse me, sodomy (described as anything from anal to oral sex) was against the law in several states until the Supreme Court struck it down, very much against the wishes of the conservative justices, who vigorously spoke out against homosexuality along with just about every republican leader since reagan!

There are many gay Republicans. That does not mean that most Republicans feel that it is okay to allow two gay people to get married. Being against that is not an attempt to outlaw gay people. I think Republicans should lighten up a bit and not be so judgemental on this issue, but the problem is that the base seems to be against gay marriage, and that drives the issue.
Be careful about your slander of Haggard. At this point, there has been no evidence provided that shows the claim to be true. He might be a sleeze, but there is a good chance that the claim is untrue.

They're not against gay marriage because they really care about the issue. They're against it as a way to pander to people's prejudices and hatreds in order to win votes. The republicans have been in power for awhile now. If they really wanted to ban gay marriage they would've done it by now. The christian right is beginning to wake up to the fact that the republicans are saying one thing while doing another, and it's about time. Hypocrisy and dishonesty in politics and religion is nothing new, by the way.

They don't want to outlaw homosexuality. They want to outlaw gay marriage. Gay people are free to marry anyone they want as long as they're the opposite sex. They have the same rights as everyone else in that sense. No one is trying to outlaw their existance.

Yes there are alot of Gays in the GOP, they don't like paying extra taxes as much as most of us. GOP doesn't want to outlaw homos. Just as there are factions of the DNC that are homophobes the GOP has factions as well.
