Do you mean...legally? Or do you mean a curfew put in place by the parents?

Legally speaking, I think it is only reasonable for teens under the age of 18 to have a state-mandated curfew, and that curfew should be somewhere between 10pm and midnight. 18 year olds are adults and should be treated as such, as far as curfew laws are concerned.

As far as a curfew set in place by parents, they should take into account a teen's maturity level, and their track record of being responsible and decide on a time that should not exceed the local curfew laws in their area for their age. Often times, a teen will still live with their parents after they turn 18, or may visit them for long periods of time. The parent should decide how late they should be out based on their comfort level.

For instance, when I was under 18, the laws in my area stated that I could not be out after midnight on any night. My parents set a curfew of 9-10 pm for school nights, and then told me I needed to be home by midnight on other nights. When I turned 18 and was still in high school, my curfew was still 10pm for school nights, but they did not care what time I came home other nights as long as I did, infact, come home, they knew where I was and who I was with, and they knew around what time I would be home and I would call if I were going to be late.

I don't live with them anymore since I am in college, but when I come for long visits and want to go visit friends, they just prefer that they know around what time I am coming home at night and that I am quiet when I do get home so I don't wake them. I found this to be perfect. I earned my parents trust and was rewarded for it with a very lenient curfew once I turned 18.

yes I think all teens should have a curfew because its important to be back at home at a certian time that way the parents no your safe. As for 18 and up they should only have a cufew if there still going to highschool or living at home otherwise thats just stupid. I have a curfew it s 10:00 on school nights and 11:00 on weekends

They shouldn't have a set curfew, but a relative time when they should be home. It is usually around 11pm. I've never stayed out later than 11:30. At 11 parents are tired and want to come pick their kids up and the kids are also starting to get tired. Most of the times when i get together with friends its from 7:30 to 11pm, and it's always a perfect time. Usually, all the kids in the area hang out at the same times, which is why setting a curfew too early could cause problems.

Sweetie,If the child is living at home under their parents roof, yes. They need to have a curfew and should have one.Reguardless,as to whether they are over 18 or not, they still need boundaries and rules. It is your house, your teenagers, and your rules. Some who are over 18 may complain, but they need to follow the rules reguardless,as it is your home and they need to respect that. You must make them aware, that even tho they are 18 years of age or above that you still expect them to follow the rules.Starting from 13,i believe it should be a supervised outing,as i dont think 13 year olds should be out alot.It is dangerous for them to be out unless there is an adult present. As they get older, gradually expand the time they are allowed to be out with their friends.Do as you feel comfortable with, dont let anyone tell you different.Although,i do suggest you stand firm on the curfew.Good luck, and have a good day hun.

I don't think 13-16 year olds should be out without some type of supervision. Too many 16 year olds get out with car keys and little intelligence about driving and kill themselves. My curfew was 11 until I was 18. Then it was 12. I got married right after I turned 20.

Yes, when my daugther was growing up she had different curfews at different ages At 13 she had to be inside by 9:00 and in bed by 10:00 when she started dating her curfew was insidde by 10:00 on weekdays midnight on weekends (dates). Now at 21 she doesn't have a curfew but has found it adventageous to be home by midnight since she goes to school and works and it's difficult to do both when one hasn't had enough rest.
