It depends on what you mean by "better." There are mp3 players that are technically "better"--they play more formats, have more storage for the price, receive FM radio, and so on. But there are things that the iPod has going for it that go beyond the technical capabilities: the iTunes Store is the largest and most successful legal downloading service for music, TV, and movies, Apple's interface with both the iPod and iTunes make them easy and intuitive to use, and the gigantic user base (80% of all portable media players are iPods) means that there's an entire universe of accessories and enhancements by third parties that other players just don't have--high quality docking solutions for cars and home stereos, stylish cases, microphones, media adapters to transfer digital photos, built-in games, even weird, useless things like laser pointer, flashlight and remote control attachments.

depend how many songs u haveand what kind of ipod, cuz bigger ipods have a actual proccessor and if thats bumped in the slightest way when its on ur ipod is toast. on the other hand a small ipod like a nano or a mini they use flash memory and donnt die as easily but a MP3 is a better choice damage wise but they do hold less songs so it matters what u want more song then its more likely to have the player die, or less songs and not have to worry bout it so it just matters what u want

I'm really happy with my mp3 player. Even though it doesnt' hold as many songs as an ipod and it doest play video, it's never broken and i've never had any problems with it. But all my friends who have ipod keep breaking them. It seems like ipods were made to break so that you have to send it back to the apple and get it fixed.

My Ipod stopped working after ONE month. My MP3 is still working after 2 years. I can load enough music on it for a good run. I like classical music, so Ipod tunes is not for me! Movies and stuff like that I like to watch on big screen, not on Ipod screen. Depends on what you are looking for, to have a long term running device or just a fashion gadget!

they are the same thing. ipods are more common and they do more (video ect.) but usually to get music for ipods you have to use itunes unless you cheat/steal music.
