Ugh.No I dont.Im a liberal, but on this thing I really really agree with you.
Affirmative action only succeeds in further spreading the idea that racism is alive and well in this country by rewarding someone simply because of the color of their skin.

It's not the quality of the teachers in Detroit or other suburban areas. It's the mentality of the people who live there.
The parents who don't parent, the "I deserve becasue I am black" attitude, the crime, the abuse, the beat-down depressing environment.
My liberal white self believes that if a black kid or any other minority can work hard enough to get to the point that affermative action might come into play (college, a job), then they don't need the hand-up. At that point they have made it. At that point the playing field is equal or even.
When these minorities need a special hand is when the 13 year old girls are getting pregnant and when the 11 year old little boys are packin' heat or when some parent who has been on welfare for 8 years is on her 6th child by her 4th man, etc.
There are poor, undereducated, abused, neglected kids of all races and colors.
I have done that genetic mapping thing thru the National Geographic website and my ancestors are traced back to Africa. Most of us will find that we started in Africa. Why can't I call my blonde head and blue eyes "African?" Just becasue I'm not darker skinned?
Blacks and other minorities want to be treated fairly on one hand and they say "color doesn't matter" etc. But on the other hand they want a special deal because of that skin color.
What is up with that?
The cream always rises to the top. No matter the color, of the person, the successful people should be able to duke it out fair and square with nobody getting an advantage just becasue his or her momma was black or just becasue his granddad was Spanish. That' a load of crap.
I'm more liberal than not, but I don't believe that handouts result in the betterment of any situation.

nicely, i might think of that socioeconomic is extra helpful than race using fact being undesirable is the genuine handicap. regrettably, racial discrimination nevertheless exists and we could want the present affirmative action. the different problem with affirmative action is that, in my opinion, would not create equality in any respect. And is bigoted too. i might ideally want some thing that reward rather capacity and not race or how a lot funds you had. we don't stay in an suitable international nevertheless.

The idea behind affirmative action is that it gives opportunity to those whose opportunities are thought to be limited. In the workplace, for example, it was pushed based on the concept that white people are more inclined to hire and promote other white people. Affirmative action would allow for more minorities to be in higher positions thereby providing more opportunity for promotion and hiring of minorities.
It sounds good on paper, but in practice, it doesn't work. It's done in an effort to stop discrimination against minorities, but affirmative action turned into a form of discrimination against non-minorities.

No. There is no argument for keeping it. There are opportunities for all if they want to take advantage of them. It is just a habit to feel guilty if one is white and didn't grow up in the inner city.

Suppose that once upon a time there was a country where in good deeds were rewarded by a free market system with wealth, status, and power. Suppose that there was a contest between families to determine whose family could do the most good. Suppose after about 400 years most of the wealth, status and power was concentrated into the hands of those families who won this contest presumably by doing the most good. Suppose that after reviewing 400 years of history the vast majority of the inhabitants of this country realized that this contest was unfair to certain families because of their ethnic background or simply because of the colour of their skin. Suppose that for almost 300 years certain families were never compensated for the good deeds they had done because their labor was stolen from them by institutionalized slavery. Suppose that for about 100 years after that these same families were discriminated against; were denied fair and equal access to wealth, status and power; and continued to be denied the opportunity to compete fairly in the this contest to do good. Suppose that members of these very same families volunteered to serve their country in times of war and died for their country. Would you as an inhabitant of this country wish to do something to address this social injustice? Would you as an inhabitant of this country wish to win this contest to do good fair and square or would you be satisfied with being from a family that cheated by having a 400 year head start? As I understand it, Affirmative Action is doing something to address 400 years of social injustice suffered by certain families due to institutionalized slavery and or the denial of fair and equal access to wealth, status and power.

I'm all for equality.
Affirmative Action isn't affirmative....and definitely not equal.
Discriminating to prevent discrimination makes no sense and is unjust. We're all equal - let the performance, not quotas, prove it to be so.

To promote racism. The government is trying to tell people that certain race groups need help and can't make it on their own - which is totally not true.
