We are trying to pay back a check that didn’t clear our bank due to financial difficulties. My husband is in the army and deployed and we had some problems financially. It is not right that anyone could get your phone number. My concern is that this check writing collection agency somehow got our non published phone number and cell phone number and I have no idea how they could retrieve this information since they never had it the first place. This is a new number. I feel that confidentiality has been broken and I just would like to know how they go about getting our cell phone numbers and home number when they never had it to begin with. How do they do this and what should I do? Please help.

Unlisted means just that. You can't. Go to the Marshals and/or the Police and show them the court order and they will confront her. She will have no choice but to comply because otherwise she would be going against a judges ruling which is illegal. If you haven't tried this web-site, check it out ZABASEARCH.COM It is a free people locator web-site. Good Luck.....

companys can run your social security number and get all the info they need. Also filing out a credit report or app for a loan or whatever.. when u sign at the bottom of the app u are giving them permission to run the report and send off to third partys.. u need to check into this and find out whats going on.. Its not right for what they are doing

You may have put it on a credit application or even on the check itself. They might also have called a neighbor/friend and asked the neighbor/friend how to get hold of you. If you are bothered by their contacts, go to www.ftc.gov, then go to "For The Consumer" and read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You have the right to tell them you will not deal with them anymore and that you will only deal with the original creditor (unless the debt collector bought the debt).

All they have to do is run credit report on you. Anytime you fill out a credit app and put your phone number on it, they can get it.
