I buy in bulk, and my last Amazon order was:

Lisey's Story - Stephen King - apparently very literary and interesting

2 books by Harlan Coben - recently discovered this author and his murder mystery books. Enjoy them so much I'm working my way through the series.

Fourplay - Fiona Walker - one of my favourite UK authors for smart chicklit with a sense of humour.

The latest Nora Roberts - I'm addicted, although this series isn't as strong as her usual.

The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson - fantastic as always.

I'd highly recommend all of these - they're great authors.

Yesterday I went to B and N and bought "Great Expectations" by Dickens, "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, and "Nine Stories" by Salinger. I have lost touch with new literature, recently found myself rereading some that I finished a couple years ago. I will keep checking here on this site for "good" ones. I like just about everything as long as it's good.(I have never read any Dickens-you belive that??!!- nor have I read Bronte (Emily). Since I've been so book starved, I figured now would be a great time to hit the classics.

The latest novel I bought today at a second-hand bookshop is "Absalom, Absalom!" by William Faulkner, it's a hardback published in the Modern Library Edition and I paid about US$ 5 for it. I like his writing style and his 'stream of consciousness' as applied in his novels was presumably the new literary technique to the world and thus the Nobel Prize Committee reached the decision in awarding him the Prize in Literature in 1949.

You might start with some eminent men or women of letters who have been awarded some prestigious literary prizes nationally/internationally. As for me, some Nobel Laureates in Literature do not guarantee readability, therefore, it's up to my taste and enjoyment. We read to enjoy and, for me again, to console myself from unhappiness. I hope you can find some great and favorite authors and the genre you prefer soon.

Find some and enjoy your reading.

I just bought Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. He's a great writer (The Notebook, The Wedding, A Bend in the Road to name a few). I've read lots of raving reviews about it so you won't be disappointed if you decide to pick a copy up.

"Jumping Off the Planet" and two of its sequels by David Gerrold. Before that, it was the Borribles trilogy by Michael de Larrabeiti, along with "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo.

I'm in the middle of "Bleak House" by Charles Dickens right now, though, and I'm really enjoying it. Also, I'd highly recommend "Click" by Kristopher Young and "Futureproof" by N. Frank Daniels, if you want something a little grittier.

I brought "Harry Potter and the half-blood prince". Waited until it came out in paperback (cheaper), and at a time near when I needed a holiday read. Would imagine if you've read it, you may not want to read it again so soon. Perhaps you would though!
