Here I was, early in the morning when I thought, "Hey! I might go play some Battlfield 1942".
Clicking the icon only came up with, "Please insert your CD", and inserting the CD (again) did nothing.
Now I look at My Computer and... Well both my CD and DVD drives have ceased to exist...
I have 3 phantom drives, "Morrowind Oblivion, Battlefield 1942 and Company of Heroes but no normal drives.

Ummm... Do any of you know how I may be able to fix this?
Many thanks,
Dellian

Oh yes it has happened manytimes with me, the CD drive is just not there and sometimes it wont open. The green light thingie on the drive wont glow either.

A hardware friend of mine told me that during booting this device was not initialised and hence the CPU didnt detect its existence.

All you have to do is do a reboot!! It will work.

Also this doesnt happen with Plug-n-Play devices and only with the Fixed/Removable storage devices which need DMA.

Could well be a driver issue as well (if you can open/close the drive this will usually be the case.) If rebooting doesn't catch the prob, you may have to locate and update your drivers via the add/remove hardware wizard.
