A few questions about Facebook. Can you delete an account? Can you make it so people from outside your school can't even search for you? What is poking? Is it worth getting one or do you think it is too risky? Thank you.

Yes to your first two questions. You can delete if you want and you can make it as private as possible. For instance, mine is only available to people I add. Nobody at my school can see my profile--just my friends. You can also create a limited profile that will show certain information to some and other information to others.

Poking allows you to show your profile to an individual who would not otherwise be able to (because they go to another school or other reasons). It's always fun to get into poke wars with your friends.

I like it and think it's more secure than most other sites because it is still privately owned (as far as I know). That may change in the future, however, seeing as Myspace was sold to Rupert Murdoch.

It's available to college and high school students, as well as regional areas. I believe you can also sign up without a network as well.

Facebook is a social networking service for high school, college, university, corporate, non-profit, military and geographic communities primarily in English-speaking countries. As of December 2005, it had the largest number of registered users among college-focused sites (at over 7.5 million US college student accounts created with an additional 20,000 new accounts being created daily).[1] It is the number one site for photos, ahead of public sites such as Flickr, with 2.3 million photos uploaded daily[2], and is the seventh most trafficked site in the United States, according to ComScore's MediaMetrix.

Facebook is based in Palo Alto, California. The name of the site is based on the paper facebooks that many colleges give to incoming students, faculty, and staff depicting members of the campus community.

We have about as much of an idea as you do. We thought it would be fun to make a feature that had no real purpose and to see what happens from there. So mess around with it, because you're not getting an explanation from us.

Go to MY PRIVACY.

Poking is just something to do to get someone else's attention.

It's worth getting one. You can find old friends and see how they are doing.

It's not risky. Just set your profile to private.
If you want risky, there's MYSPACE.
