I have severe depression, suicidal thoughts, and extreme anxiety. I saw a psychologist, who was worthless. I went to my regular doctor to get a referral to a psychiatrist because I need help now! But the earliest I can get into any doctor is in 1 month! Why is that? What if someone is severely mentally ill? Isn't that bad to wait a month?

I saw my psychologist 4 times and she decided I was "ok".

If it's so bad that you cannot wait a month, then do not wait a month. Tell the psychiatrist that you feel suicidal and they should take you immediately. I think it's the law. You may also go to your local emergency room and explain the situation. They cannot turn you away.
Get help!!

Of course you're right. The mental health industry doesn't care. If you commit suicide, be sure to cancel your appointment first!
Seriously, you found out psychologist are worthless. So are psychiatrist. The only difference is a psychiatrist will tell you to take Zoloft.
Realize that you shouldn't be feeling this way. Things to do to help yourself are:
1) Don't over-sleep. Force yourself to get less than 8 hours of sleep. Sleep deprivation is very effective.
2) Get exercise.
3) Get sunshine.
4) Don't think about how bad things have been in the past. The further away you are from things in the past the less it affects you.
5) Decide to well. Come up with a plan to accomplish something. Start small.
Sure your life sucks. So just try to have fun. Try to make the best of what you have. No one is in a completely hopeless situation. Realize you have the power to improve your situation. You have to do it yourself. Don't let them give you medication, it may help in the short term, but its not the solution. There are books you can read. You have to decide you're going to do something about it, and do it. It's hard because in a depressed state you feel like "what's the use", but you CAN force yourself.
Good luck!!!!!!

Was the psychologist considered worthless because you didn't agree with them? A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specializing in the treatment of mental diseases. Perhaps you should give the psychologist another chance, or try another one before you go running to a psychiatrist. If you are that desperate, then you should check yourself into a mental hospital immediately, rather than wait.

Yes... it's unfortunate that you can't get in sooner. There are better things to come for you once you get on the proper medications.
Also your medical doctor (rather than a psychiatrist) is fully licensed to prescribe psychological medications so you could try seeing him/her and telling them that you are severely depressed and really feel medication would benefit you. I did that and they prescribed me Paxil. For depression and anxiety you would probably want a SSRI antidepressant that targets both problems.
For me, I've tried several and the very best that I've used and I've heard others say so too is Zoloft. Since it is the best though, it is often the most expensive. Ask your medical doctor right away rather than waiting to see the psychiatrist but definitely keep that appointment and discuss your concerns with him. Good luck and hang in there. Try exercising when you feel anxious, that really helps me.

Yeah, some psychologist suck, in fact, mine practically made me worse. It is hard sometimes to get in with a good psychiatrist, but don't forget, if u need immediate attention you can go to the emergency room.

If you are an adult and are having suicidal thoughts, go to an emergency room where they can determine whether or not you might do harm to yourself. (triage)
If you are a serious danger to yourself, check your state laws, but in ID you can be committed involuntarily for 48 hours. You might want to admit yourself into a mental facility anyway, and begin to get whatever help you need.
Dont give up.

That seems excessive if you are in a crisis. Call back and say that you believe you need medication and must see someone as soon as possible. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and you are in genuine need. If you start to feel suicidal please contact your local hospital emergency room or call the Samaritans.
