There are records of human sacrifice in the ancient Greek culture in historic times. But the Greeks believed in the force of law and they became to believe that human sacrifice was not desirable. But sacrifice was a part of their religious practice and human sacrifice had been practiced in the past. The result is that myths included stories of human sacrifice. The story of the Trojan war deals with the sacrifice of Iphigenia, Polyxena, the the nobles of Troy, and the child of Hector. The Locrians sent many girls to their deaths to make up for the rape of Cassandra. It is obvious that Andromeda was intended to be sacrificed, but Perseus saved her. There is even archeological evidence that human sacrifice was practiced by the Minoan Culture.
You can learn more about virgin sacrifices in ancient Greece from these link, http://www.fjkluth.com/sacri.html.
Also another website offers information of virgin sacrifices from the Old Testament, http://www2.ida.net/graphics/shirtail/sacrific.htm. Check it out.
Hope this helps. Goodluck!

Read anything by Edith Hamilton, Joseph Campbell, Ashley Montegue, Margret Mead, Carl Jung. The Golden Bough by William Frazier is a classic. Some of this stuff is very scholarly, but if you are interested, you will enjoy any of these authors. The internet is filled with info, just type in a phrase and go!

The special status of virgins was common to ancient religion and remains so today. Some cultures in Asia, Europe and the Americas did use young women and even children as sacrifices because of their purity. Other cultures, like ancient Rome and the Catholic Church, elevated virgins (Vestals or nuns respectively) as being holy because of their virginity. And, of course, virgin births of gods and goddesses were common to all religions, including Christianity.

Even now, there may be some being sacrificed. There must be at least a few virgins amongst our young people being sacrificed in Iraq.

not only these but some of the Celtic, Germanic, and other early Civilizations did this practice also. there are also those who use the word " virgin " to mean a young girl or young woman and not necessarily ones who were " unspoiled " as many modern scholars perceive today.

The Aztecs sacrificed pretty much everyone they had contact with, and didn't take sexual histories beforehand (this is one of the reasons the Spaniards were able to get help in defeating them).

Yes but they have had to stop recently due to a lack of virgins.
I believe the Mayans in South America did this.
