As this is cold and flu season, it is possible that any number of things made you sick.
It is also possible that, having not had "red meat" in 3 years, your stomach and intestines was not used to breaking it down. That would mean you had some indigestion. Whenever you have a new food introduced to you, expect a mild to moderate case of this.
Good luck!

Assuming that it wasn't anything else in your mom's dish (dairy and lactose intolerance or something similar) and assuming that it was the meat... Probably the reason that it made you feel sick in the night was because your system has lost the ability to digest the meat. Since it has been three years since your last meat meal, you body has adapted and the meat in your mom's dish was a little more difficult for your system to process. I have a friend who lived a complete vegetarian lifestyle for over five years. But, she began to eat meat again and it was a long (painful) process for her to be able to "enjoy" it without the sick feeling. She doesn't eat a lot of meat, but as you have noticed... sometimes there are small amounts of meat in really good foods -- and she has had to rebuild her body's ability to digest meat. So, that's what I think you felt sick yesterday. At least you'll feel better for the weekend!

Bottom line, you need to eat more meat. If you eat seafood regularly, then that's good. But if not, then you are not getting the full sequence of essential amino acids in your diet (essential means anything your body can't make naturally, but must get from food).
You can learn to like the taste of meat. If there is some moral reason why you don't eat meat, get over it. Your health is more important.

in simple terms the enzymes that break down meat left your disgestive system because they didn't have any reason to stay around. if you start eating meat again they should return. I cook and can't stand the smell of cooking meat unless the odor is masked with herbs and/or wine. i was talking to a friend of mine because i thought it was probably weird on my part but he said he stopped eating meat when he worked in fast food becuse the smell of fresh hamburger made him sick.

I think your sickness was mostly psychological. Keep introducing meat in very small quanitities until they no longer bother you, then gradually iincrease the quantity. You may find you like it later on. You may have had a brief 24 hour flu bug hit you too. Your stomach is not used to the fat and texture of meat, so it may initially reject it. But you can adjust. Meat is good protein source.
It's nothing to worry about.

The same happened to me when I cut out meat only for a year...I had bacon and felt sick...I think it's just your digestive system dealing with something it's not used to. It all got back to normal after a week or so.

I also do not eat much red meat. I find that the body not being used to the meat for some time will often have trouble assimulating it, and cause cramps, and even constipationj!

It is ok not to eat meat..... I hardly ever do! But I think that you might have woken up sick that might because you didn't have meat for so long.... that has happened to me. But you don't have to worry about it.... it is fine not to eat meat, and only seafood.

No. You got sick because your body is no longer use to eating meat.
I know a few people that didn't eat pork growing up, when they tried it as adults, it made them sick because their bodies can't digest it.
