I was on the progesterone shot (Depo) for a year. The first month, I had a period, and then I went 11 months with out one. Yeah, eleven months with no period. It was great. :)
I tried that "trick" with the pills, to just skip that week of "sugar pills" but I still had spotting, and that's because the hormone levels in most birthcontrol pills vary each week. The best route, if you want to skip periods, is to go for the shot. However, there are some icky side effects that some women get, like headaches, nausea and sore breasts. Not all women get them, but if you do, you're stuck with it for three months.

There's a birth control pill that makes it so you only have 4 periods a year. Also, if you're on regular birth control and need to skip for some reason, you can skip the placebo pills they give you to keep you in the habit of taking them and go right to the next pack of full strength medication.

If you take the pill, just skip the supositories (last week of pill) and start the new pack right away. Just don't do this on a regular basis.

Or, you can switch birth control and go on the Depo-Provera shot. This stops your periods completely after a while. Although some poeple occasionally experience spotting.

Are you taking "The Pill" if so, depending on the pill you are taking whether its the 28 day pill or 21 you can alter your cycle. Taking the 21 day pill instead of not taking it for a week start the next packet with no break and for the 28day pill miss the 7 "fake" pill and start your next paket. But you should speak to your clinic/nurse or Dr. they will advise you better.

Just what I have tried...hope this helps

Birth control pills. Instead of skipping a week (or taking the sugar pills for those women who have trouble counting), just continue taking the pill.
