I fell in love with a gal when I was 18 and she was 15. I got orders to ship to Korea. We had to have permisision from our Commanding Officers to get married back then and he turned my request down. I lost contact with her when she and her family moved from Texas to Ohio. That was in 1954. I still think of her today.

Yes, people do pine on for life.
Yes, other people do get over it.
Once someone is truly in your heart, the feeling is there for life.
If the feeling is only infatuation that feels like love, then it will fade.
Getting over pining comes with conscious realization and acceptance that it can never be. You can still have love for someone and let go.
Although I love several women, all somewhat differently, two reciprocating participants are required to be in love.
The best way to get to overcome pining is to get passionately engrossed in a hobby.
Mine are motorcycles and Brazilian jiu jitsu. Danger, adrenaline, and kicking *** will get someone out of your head every time.

That is a very hard experiance to go through, wanting to be with someone so badly. I think if you have deep feelings for someone those feelings don't just go away because the are away from you. The heart wants what it wants and time and space apart does not change that.

I know a guy who was sure he was in love with a girl for over 10 years but it was unrequited. I hope to requite him well enough to assure him that loving someone is never a waste of time...

My relationship with my ex has been over for over a year now, and there still isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him and how I love him. I don't really think it'll ever go away.

It has been 16 years. I still love him but it could never work. You do move on. We are still friends after all these years and I would have it no other way. He the greatest guy ever(after my hubby).
