I am answering this blind, I don't do profiles, I think there are many cases that can work in the community but obviously this depends on what the person is capable of dealing with, ie they need to be very aware of how certain drugs in their program help them, where the system fails both the subject and the rest of the community is when medication is taken haphazardly or not at all. For example a schizophrenic may become violent or a depressive suicidal, so in these cases it doesn't work. Largely though people learn by others in their peer groups and all sorts of case workers provide ongoing support. So, in conclusion, yes it does work. But not as perfectly as the theory would have you believe.

no i dont think it dose because there is no real community anymore, think about it, how many people in your street do you know more than just to say morning to? how many times have you poped next door for a chat? would you even notice if the family opperset went on holiday for a week other than to comment that the car wasnt there? whould you notice if the old lady 2 doors away hadnt been out for her pension this week?
come on be honest whan you answer those questions,
it dosnt work because we are all so wrapped up in our own life the huge morgage the overtime to pay for it, the kids christmas prezzies ect that we havent the time or the energy for anyone we dont have to give it to.

It varies a great deal. If the person is obviously in need of care and is dying from cancer for example they get care. if they have an unseen problem lke depression or other illnesses that aren't obvious - they get little care.

No it doesn't. Who monitors these people? It's scary to think who and what sort of people are walking the streets.
