my dvd recorder reads and writes data/audio cds but it doesn't recognize any kind of dvd.......?

the problem appens both under windows and linux, what can i do?

did you know Elena that my DVD writer did the same some people told me to see the optic as it may not be clean but at all the htttp:\www.drvupdate.com (my manufacture site) told that the drive may be corrupt and asked me to ask the one who sold it to me.....!
any way if i found any working way i"ll tell u as i think your doing

then its just a combo drivre it reads (plays )dvd and cd but just burns cd or is just a cd burner no dvd
