I have 2 RES one male one female. We have had them for over a year when I bought them the store owner told me they wouldnt get any bigger. Well she was mistaken the female is now 10" from head to tail and 7" accross the male is 81/2" long and 6" accross. They now are very aggressive towards each other him more than her he will bite on to her and not let go so now her back end is all chewed up and raw. I have a 50 gallon tank its not big enough for either of them anymore and I dont know what to do with them. with our living situation right now it would probably be best to find them new homes but nobody wants them. I called the pet store owner and she told me she would tak ethem back but right now her tank is full and i would have to wait until the others sold before vringing mine down. We love them but we just dont have the time or finances for them anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do with them. I know i have to seperate them but but how not enough room in thetank

I live in a very small town there isnt anything around here like what people are telling me. There are not aquariums, sanctuaries or anything we have a humane society thats about it. So if you have any other ideas they would help.

your turtles are probably wanting to mate, that's why he's bothering her so much
go to walmart and get a large plastic bin or tub to put one of them in to seperate them for now
you can't do it now cause winter is near but in the spring find a nice pond where you can turn them loose, RES can and do readily revert to the wild, it's instinct, they will survive

As you have discovered- almost none of the usual answers work with certain animals. No one wants big Res-ear sliders, giant snakes, big lizards, etc. because they just plain cost too much to keep.
You can try putting up flyers (especially in pet shops) offering the turtles free to a good home- this often helps, especially if you include housing, etc.
You can ask a friend with a farm pond or other non-wild pond if they will take them.
I know this is a tough situation, and I feel for you!
Good luck!

You can ship them to me LOL. First off never trust what they say at the petstore... You can look inot finding a rescue group if you really want to give them up, then you'll know that they will be placed in a good home. I know someone with 4 res and he keeps them in a plastic kiddie pool in his basement. The plastic kiddie pools are $10 each and if you have the room and no small kids to worry about drownding maybe that'll help you out. Since they are fighting you'll need to put several islands or floaty things for them so they can have their own spot. I hope you can keep them so many res are homeless!
