One day a man was a soldier. He served proudly for many years. He earned the rank of major and was highly decorated. He led a good clean life. No drugs, social drinking, never drove drunk. He went to church and prayed every Sunday. He did charity work, saved his money, he paid his bills. He stayed physically fit and mentally stable. He was an outstanding person over all.

Two weeks later he was being discharged from the military. Received a dishonorable discharge, couldn’t pay his bills because he had no job. Tossed out of the church he attended for many years, shunned by the parishioners. Was accused of being a pervert, of sick and disgusting acts from his friends.

What did this man do that was so wrong? He loved another man! True story form a few short years ago. However, it happened again today to yet another service man. For the same stupid reason. Knowing all this, will you still vote for the same people who are in office today. Will you stop voting for republican?

He was dishonorably discharged? I thought it was honorable.

The poor man. I'm so sorry for them both.

Sad story. Maybe some private things don't belong in the public eye? People suppose that they can judge another person's character by some things that don't have anything to do with character. Sexuality tops the list. To many (not me) homosexuality can be synonymous with promiscuity, pedophilia and generally loose morals. I prefer to seek solutions instead of feeling stuck with problems: would it have made a difference if this man had never concealed his sexuality, so that his "outing" wouldn't have been a shock to others? Or should he have been more careful to keep it concealed?
I know the real solution is in removing the negative connotation that his community had about homosexuality, but that's a slow process. It's a process that includes people knowing openly gay people who are good people. It isn't easy for heterosexuals (like me) to accept people who seem fundamentally different from ourselves, but I can tell you that I tend to have more respect for honest people than I do for "closeted" people.
I think you have helped me realize something about how I think of people.

This isn't a "love" issue, it's a morality issue and about preserving families and marriage. Not only will I continue voting Republican, but I'm making a special effort to go to the polls next week to vote for Arizona Proposition 107. This proposition will stop political special interests and judicial activists from redefining marriage and making it meaningless.

As an American you are free to be homosexual - one of the many freedoms we Americans enjoy. Just please don't force it upon people and try to take away other people's freedoms such as undermining the institution of marriage.
