It is usually due to a language barrier. How many languages can you ask questions in fluently? Often they post questions in computer shorthand or their version of it and do it phonetically in an effort to limit the amount of characters they use. They may have had a poor education. While I speak 5 languages and my husband can speak 3 and our children speak only 2 ; it doesn't mean they are illiterate in the languages they don't speak fluently ; it just means they haven't been trained. It isn't the bad spelling that irk me ; but the asinine questions that wastes everyone's time.

Why is this in marriage and divorce? I don't think that illiterate is appropriate wording. I think people have pluses and minuses in their lives and may not be able to project the real question. I try to take it one question at a time and each poster as an individual. Illiterate is so strong a word don't you think?

Bear in mind that the current education model is based on building esteem more than building knowledge. That little timmy is now only required to achieve a 5ht to 7th grade reading level to graduate from primary education and function in the world.

Look to your local newspaper, and realize that the average story is at the 8th grade level, so that "most" of the subscribers are able to understand the content.

Add to this the fact that the literate ones are most likely busy sustaining the economy during the workdsay, and not spending hours penning out ill-concieved questions.

I dont' think it is that they are illiterate. Your brain processes information faster sometimes than your fingers can type and your eyes play tricks on you because your brain is telling them what to see, that is why we sometimes have skipped words or misspelled words. Then when we proof read what we have written our brain knows what it is suppose to say and again our eyes are tricked and do not notice our errors.

They are certainly literate but they may not be much educated or qualified for people from all kinds of backgrounds, status and education level participate in the discussion.

Maybe they are. Maybe the don't run the spell check. Maybe they are from another country and aren't that familiar with the English language.

It makes it interesting...trying to figure out what they are asking!

Great question, but do you really care or do you just not have a life that you are here to critique everyone else?
