Firstly what would you like to do with your life? Did you want to be a Fireman, Doctor, Builder etc. Think about what you want to do and find out what qualifications you need. You may find you do not need any. If the job you fancy doesn't need any qualifications apply for this type of job. If the job you would like to do does need qualifications, make sure your goal is realistic. There's no point in wanting to be a Brain Surgeon if your are not clever enough. Looking at the way you have composed your letter you seem a bright person so you could probably achieve much. Firstly get a job in the day time, maybe, in a local supermarket and get your qualifications at Night School, or if you can manage it, try to get a couple of days work in the day and go to college on the days you are not working. Start with a couple of GSCE's you should be able to do these in 1 year if you are prepared to work and study hard. If you managed to get C grades or above in these two GSCE's you can then go on to take A Levels. I managed to take and pass 2 in One year by studying and working really hard. I attended college 2 days a week and also an evening class. If your are determined enough and willing to put in the work, you can achieve your potential. Once you have your 2 A levels you can then take an access course to get into University if that is what the career you have chosen requires. You should be able to get help with expenses and tuition, your college will be able to tell you how. Good Luck and I hope you succeed.

If your parents genuinely dont care for you then i agree with everyone on this page who advised you to move out. However if they do actually care about you but just dont know how to help then give them another chance it will benefit you in the long run.
Regarding your education, first thing I would do is get a job, anything to start off with because once you have A job it is much easier to find a better one. I would also sit tight and save up until the beginning of the next academic year, i.e. august, september next year. It does sound a long way off now but it will get you time to save up and get your head together.
Once that comes around see a local school or college about re-sitting GCSE maths and english. These are the most important of all subjects beacuse they are the first that any employer or any university/college looks at. Rather than burden yourself with the extra workload of other subjects, concentrate on these two and they will give you a the most firepower if you wish to continue your education. By the time you hit 20 (im presuming you are 18 by what you say in your question) you will have your grades and will have the option to do something vocational at college, anything from plumbing to hairdressing. Or you may find talents you didn't know you had and will be able to take an access course for university as a mature student. (My sister is 38 and studying for a degree)
In the mean-time hang in there, its never, ever too late to start learning. You are not thick just because you missed school. If you managed a D grade in English with no attendance then I reckon quite the opposite is true. Keep your mind fresh, dig out some old maths stuff and keep reading good quality books. Ask your local library they will be more than happy to help. Doesn't have to be Shakespeare but not Jordan's biography either.
Most importantly.....don't give up.

Most colleges offer basic entry courses into a lot of subjects if you dont have the right qualifications or any qualifications.
First you need to decide what you have an interest in and what you want to do.
Then speak to the colleges course/ career advisor who should be able to help you work out the right path . You should be able to pick up what you need to get into the course you want . Some of these you can take through evening classes and fast track block courses ( 40 hour modules can be done in a couple of weeks).
This way you could try and get what you need to start a course for next years college entry in August/Seprember 2007.

I'd say there's plenty of hope for you yet - you were able to write a clear question with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. That's a lot better than many other questions I have seen on here! I think you should get in touch with a tutor - I had some tuition when I was taking my A-Levels, so it's definitely not too late at GCSE level. Based on your ability, if you put in the hard work I think you can catch up. Good luck!

If you are over 18 then your best bet is go get your GED and get a job my question is why were you not in school even though its your parents job to make you go the choice is really up to you and even if they did not care you were and are old enough to know that you need an education to get ahead in life and if you did not know what to do why did you not call a the local HS and ask them these questions 4 yrs ago i mean come on where is the logic it seems to me you messed up and you want to blame it on your mom or dad when the real blame is on you it was your choice not to go to school even if they don't care so what how they feel with not help you on the road of success you have to want it

have hope, i'm twenty six myself and have no gcses at all, dint even sit any cos i missed loads of school with a similar parent situation. i'm now studying for a degree. how? i wrote an essay, rules about education arnt so ridgid anymore and as long as you have the drive and the will to better yourself then you will. get in touch with your local college and explain the situation, theres bound to be an access course you can get on, which is equivilant to a levels. from there you will have access to any degree course you want to do. keep going at it cos it is miserable at times and you will want to give up but dont. take this chance with both hands and go for it. good luck.

Go to college, you'll have the support of your tutors and other classmates to help. I have gained NVQ'S and GCSE's in the last 7 /8 years after being told for years I was thick!! so go for it if you only get E/F retake following year to push it up further or do further education in a direct subject that your interested in ie travel industry etc.

I know someone in a similar position. Although he is very intelligent he missed alot of school as he was bullied alot. Hes doing catch up at college just re taking maths and science and working part time. Most colleges will let you in to study if you explain your situation and work hard you can still get a decent qualification. Good luck and be strong.xxx

Contact your local college and ask them about taking GCSE's / NVQ's etc. My ex-boyfriend went back to college at 19 and had a right laugh.
Home tuition is fine but you'll miss out on the experience of college, the company of new people / friends who will all be going through the same things as you i.e. new place, new lessons, getting stuck on assignments.
I wish you all the best.

If your 18 already then it's too late to go back to highschool, I would recommend going for your G.E.D. at this point. Contact a local community college and find out their class schedule. I highly recommend that you attend each class and study. You will need to pass each section (math, english, science etc...) in order to get your G.E.D. Administrators will be willing to work with you as long as you show them that you are serious about getting your education. Best of luck to you and remember that you are doing this for yourself.
