Point taken and understood, but a life is a life.Wouldn't you want someone to think of you when you are gone?Once again, it goes back to human emotion.Even some animals show emotion.

Why are they Hero's? Yes they are trained to help people and to save lives, but how much are they paid to but their own lives at risk? Not enough if you ask me! The kind of person who takes a low paying job,{lots of police officers have to work a second job to make ends meet},in order to be there when you or I need to be pulled from a fire, or saved from a criminal, or fights for our freedom. Then , yes I will call them HEROES! I was once attacked by a stranger, a witness, quickly called the police, the were on the spot immediately, not only did they save my from further harm, they were very kind, they gave me emotional support and made go to the hospital. One of the officers even called me later just to ask if I was all right.

First of all most fireman are volunteers, yes there is danger but the need to help outweighs this. All of these careers are dangerous, true, but who would protect you and I if these people didn't do their jobs ! I wouldn't join the fire department, be a cop or join the army, but I'm damn glad there are those that sacrifice, sometimes the ultimate sacrifice to protect me and you. That's why they are considered hero's, would you give your life for another? Your mom ,dad ,sister, maybe...how about a complete stranger? I'll bet you would be happy if someone was there to help your loved ones....Think about it !

Hmm....I understand your point except one thing. What do you mean why do people get upset when police and soldiers die?? Why do people get upset when anyone die?? There people to regardless of their job and because they are doing that job they deserve some respect and honor.

Oh yeah, would you run into a burning building?

In some ways I agree with you. I believe firemen, policemen and soldiers are a bit overrated in our society, especially since 9/11. However, I do believe that anyone who has died for another person or persons for a greater cause, is truly a hero. The men and women of uniform who have died for us are indeed true heroes in my book.

Jesus is my hero.

So, are we suppose to not care when someone on the police force or military dies. Yeah, I know its the danger of the job but its still a life and someone's loved. I mean someone gave there life for you and I, so we can be safe in our own homes. Shouldn't we care and feel for their family who lost someone because of us. I understand you on the whole hero thing that is kinda their job but don't you want recognition when you do a good job at your work?Wouldn't you feel kinda like your efforts were in vain if people really don't care how good you did your job?

I can understand your point. Highly trained or not, the men and women participating in the professions you mention here are heroes and heroines because they are put in harm's way much more often than you or me or most other members of the general population.

I think you make an excellent point, and I agree with you. Otherwise it would be as if people based on their job choice could chose being a hero.
I think that they would be heroes only after doing something heroic. And that brings everyone back into the fold... ;-)
I love equality, don't you?

no, you don't understand.
Soldiers, policemen and firemen sometimes encounter situation where they can do their duty, not run away, but not take too many risks either, but some of them do take risks beyond their job description, and these actions are heroic.

These people put their life on the line to save others. They are very brave. And learn to use a period in your sentences. It was tough reading it.
