Will DVD recorders record and playback HDTV channels?

I have HDTV built in to my TV and I want to record tv shows off of it. Will a normal Wal-Mart DVD recorder record the shows and play them back in high-def or what do I need to do this? Thank you.

My DVD recorder will do this, but I didn't get it from Walmart. Mine is from Motorola.

It should record it, but it won't be in hi def. It will be in dvd format which is still pretty darn good. HD DVD is starting to come out now. And there is another one called Blue Ray also which is HD DVD. There will probably be an industry battle to see if HD DVD or Blue Ray becomes the standard.
