I need to open a door at our office about once every 10 minutes. In order to get there I walk about 20' over a carpeted floor.

It seems like everytime I touch the doorknob, I get blasted by a static shock.

Is there any way to lessen, or even avoid this entirely?

Listen to me hun Ok. I have worked in a carpeted office for 3 yrs and i have gotten the shocks of my life dammit i hate it.
buy some fabric softner sheets like downy.
put 1 in each of you pants pocket. Also put 1 in each of the shoes/sneakers/boots/clogs that you wear. You can use it to open the door with too. Oh and your always smell fresh heehee.
It works great.
PS. Rubber soles never worked for me. everytime i go to open a filling cabinet or a door or i brush by the desk sheesh zzzzzzzp ouch lol

Its not the carpet silly, Its the microwaves effecting you. What you need to do is to 711 and crawl into their large industrial Microwave that they use to microwave their oh so yummy breakfast sandwiches. But first make sure the rotating plate inside is turning counter clockwise in order to counter act the effects you are getting in your office. Then put on high for 3 minutes, stay in Microwave 2 minutes before getting out.

You'll be good to go! No more shocking when you touch door knobs. Just a nice constant humming in you head...

Good Luck.

Oh and by the way, when your at 711 , if you happen to use the restroom, Don't by any means, flush paper towels down the toilet... It clogs the chili dispenser and they get really pissed.

yes - wrap the doorknob in some kind of electrical or friction tape, or wear a glove. The only other solution would be to take out the carpet and replace it with tile or linoleum.

if you wear leather soled shoes while you work, this may help. Otherwise, you could try holding a key and touching some metal rack with it, to discharge the static electricity painlessly before you touch things by hand.

Take a pair of oven mitts to the office and hang them by the door.

Tie a small rubber strap to your ankle that hangs to the floor to ground out the electricity....or take it like a man LOL
