Nik, hi!
India's a pretty big country and is very diverse too! this means that you get different stuff in different parts of the country... some places are special for certain stuff.
in general, Indian fabric and antiques are in great demand globally. you can get some great stuff, and at fabulous prices, but your dad needs to have a local guide and someone who can bargain well...
the country has a lot of history, and there are many historic items you can buy. you also have indian art, like wood carvings, bidri works, etc. another great idea would be to buy to sandalwood stuff. all sandalwood in the country is owned by the Government of India, so ensure your dad doesn't buy any contraband stuff at unauthorized places, as he'll get arrested at the airport!
all silk and cotton stuff in india will be of the best quality and will be unlike anything you can get anywhere else...

India has great spices which are available throughout the country.U can have the traditional Kurta- Pyjama to wear for indian parties or the sarees. U can buy good handicrafts in the Southern States. Gold and Diamonds are good in the northern states.

well nik i wanna tell u dat india is a big counrty with a rich culture, religions, regions and each state here has some speciality...................now if u tell me dat in wich state is uncle going to then mayb i can help u then.................
but still i can telll u some good stuff like some rajasthani artiffects or mayb wines from goa................

Nice gold or silver jewellry , cheap alcohol! Some good fake designer clothing , nice leather jackets , sunglasses , belts sportswear , and cheap cigs if you smoke!
