You should go to a local non-chain store. You can get the best price, quality and originality. They will take the time to put a ring together for you. That's what my fiancee and I did. I liked a diamond from one ring, and a setting from another, so they put those pieces together for me. Small local stores will do anything to get the sale and make you happy. Large chains don't care about what you want, just about how much $ they can get from you. They have mass produced jewelry that is subpar in quality and totally unoriginal.

Currently, the best place to buy engagement ring is online. Not only will you get a better deal due to the lower cost of running an online store, you can also design your own diamond ring without being pressured by a commissions-based sales person.

Besides Blue Nile, if you want to take a look at some other stores, you can go to the following site to do some comparison shopping. The stores listed there all offers you the option to customise your own diamond ring.

I've always liked the stuff that I saw on www.bluenile.com They have some great rings that you can create and you pick your diamond and setting. Price wise I'm not sure who the are comparable to, but since it's a website you can surf on over and find out yourself. :)
