Can you explain to your doctor about your work and reschedule the exam for a better time? I don't think my brother would like me in the room with him.

I know even as an adult woman, they want someone in the room during an exam, probably for legal reasons. Be it civilian or military, I'm used to there being a nurse or second observer, especially if its dealing with sexual areas. As a minor, they are probably wanting a family member with him because its easier than a total stranger. She can be behind a curtain or turn her back, but one of you need to be in there with him. My husband (military) doesn't recall them ever calling a second person into any of his check-ups, but then he is an adult and not a minor.
I would guess that they'll examine his genitals and possibly ask/check about blood in the urine. Otherwise I have no idea. But if there has to be 2 people (doctor and chaperone) present for me to get a pap smear, then I'm sure they'd want 2 people for him to get checked. Just try to comfort him that its for his safety and that his sister is just as embarassed as he is. His health is alot more important than his modesty.

Your daughter does not have to stand at the foot of the bed and actually look at what is being done, and a nurse should ALWAYS be present also. Your daughter can stand in the back of the room while the exam is being done and a sheet can be put over your son's private parts....like when women have their yearly exam.

sounds like a torsion, where the testicle twists and it causes alot of pain. His sister will not have to watch the procedure, just be in the room. This happened to my brother when he was about 13 too. He was at his girlfriends house, and he has to tell her mother he was in pain. She could not get ahold of my mom right away, so she took him to the hospital. He was so embarassed, poor guy, but it was for the best. They fixed him asap, and its now just a distant memory. Tell him he will feel embarassed for a little while, but it will not be the end of the world.

I'm in the military as well. His sister doesn't have to be the escort. He can ask for a chaperone of any gender. Call to make sure that as long as they provide a chaperone, your daughter won't have to escort him into the office.
My husband had pain there too. They basically just did a regular turn and cough exam.

is their any way you can reschedule on a day there is a male doc available?, this has got to be embarressing for your son, as well as concerning to you. i have seen in my practice, too frequently, a condition where too much foreskin is removed at the circumcision, and as the boy has erections, it is painful, not enough skin, and can even bleed. this happens more often than you would think. please try to get him to a male doctor he feels comfortable talking with, even if you can't take him, he can talk to you later. good luck. tell your son he is not the only one with this kind of problem, but he should see a doctor to receive help.

well i am a military dependent. and your right he has to have someone with him. he can ask the nurse or doctor to ask his sister to wait right out side. they will allow this but he will have a nurse and the doctor. dont know on the exam part but talk to your command and see if you could leave for a couple hours and then come back

maybe his sister can be in the room. but the doctor can examine him behind the curtain or put a blanket on top of him. he could have a hernia or phimosis so he has no time to worry about embarrassment.

Does the Doctor's office at least have a privacy curtain? Is there any way you can take him to a male doctor if this doesn't work? Could your female doctor recommend one?
