Celebrities live "the glamorous" life that average people want to live. So, in a way, the average people live through the celebrities.

It's ridiculously stupid to say that people "have no life" because if that was true, you're coming off as an asshole by making fun of someone who's dead and/or it's not possible to ridicule someone who does not exist. It's the WORST "insult" or "argument" possible.

Because they don't have lives of their own.

Of course the media plays a big part in this self-lauding cycle. Celebrities need the media for publicity, and the media needs the celebrities for news. Put the two together, generate hype, and the public spends money for the latest gossip.

Because professional tabloid journalists have to be very good in order to compete for shoppers. It's the same with television - competition for ratings. So when a celebrity couple breaks up, you'd better come up with something better than playing games and getting tired of each other.

Good question, I ask myself that all the time. Maybe it's the media always putting right there in your face all the time. Maybe it's because their lives seem so much more interesting to watch. If people would focus as much energy on other things, like the environment, the world would be a better place to live.

People like to live vicariously through them. When they screw up and do something completely terrible (::cough:: Mel Gibson ::cough::), it makes us feel better for how insignificant our own problems seem in comparison. When they do something crazy and wild (::cough:: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, et al. ::cough::), we live out our own crazy dreams through them. I find that most people's lives are pretty boring. Work, sleep, eat, watch TV, etc. Hell, mine's no much better than that. I'm a simple guy with simple needs. But I can't lie and say I wouldn't like to be promiscuous, constantly partying, etc. like most celebrities do. I wouldn't want the hassle of the paparazzi and the constant worry for my safety, though, so in my own way I get to see celebrities do these things, marvel at them, appreciate them for what they are, and go back to my simple life without having ever invested much of myself in the experience. Watching from the sidelines, but still feeling like I was part of the game, as it were.

People are obsessed with celebrities because they wish they had more drama and excitement in their own lives. It is almost like some people live through celebrities. They watch every move they make and try to look, talk, and act like they do. I hope people like this can find themselves someday and make an amazing life for themselves.

I am not even sure that someone will even read this answer but, I figured since I pulled it up I will gone on and add my two cents right?

I think the reason why people are obsessed with celebrities is because in a lot of cases we see these people on t.v in our living rooms everyday and then for others it's like you feel like you know them personally,
and then you have those who are just plan wanna be's,
then there is the fact that the media play they have it's like living through these people I would think.....

Not sure why when more people should be obsessed with our American Heroes fighting to protect our freedom. Those are the people that should be in the headlines, so many of them go unnoticed and many lose their lives.
Our societies priorities are screwed up we should set celebrities on the back burner and give our Soldiers more of our attention.

Good question. Celebrities are not the brightest people in the world, plus they are so far out of reality. I think people are obsessed with celebrities because the media is always talking about them, you know to hype up their TV show or movie. Its all about money.

Some like to keep tract for trivia purposes while others like to live in the limelight vacariously through their favourite celebrities.

I believe that celebrities deserve a few hours of privacy as we all do.

I wouldn't say most people aren't obsessed with celebrities...however, there is the occasional stalker.

it is just an interest like cooking or sewing. Some people read books some people look to see who Jennifer Anniston is dating or what Paris Hilton is wearing.
