why does speed of sound change if the temp increases as it results in a decrease in density of air but the speed of sound increases through denser substances and reduces in rarer substances.

My reference indicates that the speed of sound decreases in a denser substance, rather than increases. This would be consistent with an increase in velocity in warmer air, because air decreases in density with heat, just as you indicated.
