No, black doesn't sound good...call your doctor ...you have have had a miscarriage or some other issue...dark brown blood is old blood, but black isn't necessarily...
Get check out since your periods haven't been just right in the past few months...better safe than sorry...

Chance of being pregnant on the iud is 0.1% while sterilization causes 0.5% pregnancies!
The drk blood is just old blood built up in there. Even if you did miscarry you should still test positive on a pregnancy tet even 3 days after the miscarriage and if you were pregnant it will show up because you wewre past 4-5 weeks.
Youve had it for 13 months Im assuming so I would get it checked out bc aybe during intercourse the IUD shifted and caused a tear in you (which is very uncommon as well) and thats where the buildup blood is coming from. I would adress these concerns with the DR or if you are really worried I would go to the ER they can do as many test as they can on hand for you and tell you wants going on.
Best of luck

If you have the slightlest worry you might be or were pregnant you NEED to go get tested. You can have complications if you leave the IUD in if that is the case. Ease you mind, just go to Planned Parenthood if you have to (that's where i go) and take a test. If you're not pregnant then the doc or nurse can at least give you some insight as to what is happening.
btw.. i love how easy people get grossed out lol.. Makes me wonder why they opened the question in the first place. ;P

Two part answer:
Depending on the type of IUD you have it can cause your perios to stop. Most women will have either no period or spotting.
My mom always told me that black periods are old blood. It couls be since you have a very light build up on the uterus wall you may have an "old blood" period every few months petween no periods at all.
Good Luck!

Black blood means old blood that's sat there. Need to see your doctor pretty soon to determine the cause. I'm pretty sure it's nothing, but the clots may have tissue from a miscarriage that you didn't even know about. It's not nasty, it's a legitimate question. Just get a blood test to determine if you'd been pregnant or not and he/she will take it from there.

You really don't make much sense you say you have an IUD and signs of being pregnant?? You don't say how long you have had your IUD because it is normal for your periods to be screwy when you first get it. You need to call your Dr to see what is going on.

I think it is from the IUD. They quit doing those so commonly for a long time because they caused A LOT of problems. It sounds to me like you got pregnant with it in their and carried the baby for awhile before the IUD messed up the pregnancy. So then you pushed out what was there from the miscarriage. I am not a doctor, but i saw my friend have a miscarriage and it was pretty gross like that, but it was like it was supposed to happen and not cause of a thing in her uterus knocking it out. I bet it is blocking the expectoation of the fetal material or something like that. I think you should go get the IUD out and have a D & C and just use the patch or pill or the nuva ring or something that you control instead of having a foreign object inside you where you can't get it out.

The IUD is causing your period issues. It may need to be removed to stop the blood clots before they get worse. There are other methods of birth control that are better, like Depo Provera, The Pill, Nuva Ring & the patch.
I would make an emergency appointment with your GYN to have your IUD checked out. Also, bring up your issues about the dark period, blood clots & other things at the visit. Write it all down so you don't forget.
