Also, let's say a girl gets pregnant with the left ovary for an example and the whole placenta + fetus begins to grow. What happens to the right ovary in the meantime? I've been curious for a while. Thanks in advance.

So, what exactly happens to the other ovary while the other one is making placenta + fetus? There's gotta be a good reason to why women have two ovaries instead of just one. Sort of like, how come men need two scrotrum or nutsack? What is the purpose of that?

Each cycle one of your ovaries releases an egg (called ovulation). The other ovary remains dormant meaning it doesn't do anything. The egg travels down into your fallopian tube (part that connects the uterus to the ovaries). Then if pregnancy occurs sperm fertilizes the egg and then the "baby" moves down into the uterus where it grows until it is born. During pregnancy both ovaries do not ovulate anymore until postpartum (after the baby is born). Usually the first ovulation (releasing of an egg) occurs 2 weeks to 3 months after the baby is born. If the mother breastfeeds exclusively then sometimes ovulation won't occur again until the baby is a few months old to a year old.

Your estrogen level rises and a hormone is produced that prevents further ovulation. After giving birth, depending on whether or not you're breast feeding, you then continue to ovulate. Also, every woman does not ovulate with one, then the other. Only my right ovary is functional. My left one is not.

Very wise. We have to learn to be happy in life. Throughout it even. Not just during a pause here and there.

Once you get pregnant ovulation stops while you are carrying the baby.
