Yes women can work in ISLAM.
The husband can not choose another wife till his first wife agrees.
And in Quran it says that you can marry woman of your choice two three or four but if you cannot do justice marry just one. and it also says that doing justice among wives is not easy.
Islam is the only religion which sets the upper limit of four wives. There is no restriction in chritianity or jews or hindus or buddists or anyother reliogion to marry only one wife.

Women can work, though it is not preferred.
They have to accept the second or third wife, because it is the right of the husband to have them.
Going along with that
a. prior to marriage the engaged can agree to not have the husband marry any more women.
b. a man can only have more that one wife if he can support them and he must treat all wives equally. meaning times, money, affection etc.

I am a married Muslim woman, and my husband and I agreed to him not having any more wives. I also am in school and work to make things easier on my husband, and to increase our extra income.
