Good question! However, 1-way mirrors are not really 1-way: they let as much light out as they do in! They depend on the fact that the "invisible" side is less well illuminated than the "visible" side.

I'd like to add to what JJ said. My brother and his wife thought the one-way film added to their bathroom window worked at night with the bathroom lights on. Not so!!!
