shared graphics are only designed for basic multi-media tasks as the graphics hardware they use only have limited pixel and shader model cappabilities, these are the specs that determines how good a graphic card is
the main problem with graphics in laptops is the space problem ,as manufacturers need to cram loads into a small unit and the easiest way to do the graphics is to add them to the motherboard in the shape of on board graphics
however you havent mentioned the name of your on-board graphics,as nvidia and ati have some really good chipsets such as the n-force chipsets in nvidia and the x200 and 300 in the case of ati
these 2 manufacturers on board graphics would more than likely run flight sim x no problem, but any other like sis, intel or s3 would struggle
which ever one you use ,your best bet would be to set all the video options to the lowest settings and then increase them slowly until you reach a decent frame rate and visual quality, then save these settings if possible
good luck
