It was working fine until it moved house recently. When switched on the screen stays black and a box appears in the middle of the screen with an information symbol saying "off mode".
All plugs and cables are connected properly.
Any help would be appreciated.

Your graphcis card has come loose during the move. You need to open up the box and 'reseat' your graphics card. Basically push it back into it's slot - very slowly and carefully and it will be fine.

I would suggest to take the base cover off also, making sure that power cables , mouse, keyboard and monitor is disconnected. Make sure all the cables inside are securly in their place and to be sure that all cards like your vga and sound card, if not integrated in to the motherboard, are in tightly also. Check the monitor also to be sure that the cable that goes in to the computer wasn't bent or broken. There are alot of tiny cables in monitor cables and if one is broken, it can flicker or have the colours disoriented.
You have then made sure that the hardware is ok. Put all cables in again and test it out. Hopefully it will be ok. If the problem still persists, it may be software related. You should have got system disks when you bought your pc. On most of these, there are repair software options. Alot of PC makes have different ways of system repairs. Most of them, you insert the cd and restart the pc with the cd in it. It should detect it. Follow the instructions given. They are usually straight forward. Hopefully instead of reinstalling windows again, this will sort it. Sometimes you may need to reinstall drivers, some PC companies have accompanying driver cd's. You can also go to the pc's web site and should have an option to download drivers. Reinstalling Windows can be expensive as you are buying a licence. This can be done at a last resort. Good luck!

Monitor's Off Mode: The lowest power consumption mode which cannot be switched off (influenced) by the user and that may persist for an indefinite time when a computer monitor is connected to the main electricity supply and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. For purposes of this specification, Off Mode is defined as the power state when the product is connected to a power source, produces no images, and is waiting to be switched to On Mode by a direct signal from a user/computer (e.g., user pushes power switch).

If you are running a dell desktop, is the light on the front green or amber?
Second, like it was mentioned look at your mother board for bulging capacitors and check your power supply.
All in all moving a computer can indeed work cables loose, open that case and ensure that all connections are tight.
If the computer is under warranty and you still do not see nothing i would contact the manufacturer. I do not think its your monitor considering you see off mode. If your seeing that the monitor is functional

I'd seriously think about researching the model if you can get to an internet point - there might just be a switch you can press or scroll through to get to an interface with the monitor. Other than that please accept my sympathies as that's an outrageous thing to happen. I hope you've got it on again now.

P.S. Try turning it off and on again.
P.P.S. Look at the manual
P.P.P.S. Call up the technical support they may well have a 24-hour team.
P.P.P.S don't buy another monitor -that one works fine. If you do though, get a good one. LG make a nice flatscreen that's quite cheap.
P.P.P.S.

Have you tried another monitor? Sometimes things get bumped in the moving process and they don't work properly afterward. If you get any kind of start-up action, you can press F8 and go into safe mode. From there, if your monitor has drivers or special software, you may want to try reinstalling it or playing with the settings. Also, check the monitor for addtional switches in the back. Something may have been accidentally turned off in the move.

When all else fails, call the Geek Squad at Best Buy. They're really helpful and not that expensive.

Your monitor is not connected properly. Pull the cable loose and check for any bent pins in the connector (monitor cable). I had a computer do this about 6 months ago and it like to have driven me up the wall until I found the bent pin on the cable. You will have to carefully insert it when after you have straightened it out. Good luck

I do not know why your computer is stuck in off mode. Just the fact that it says 'off mode' on the screen means it is on.

Did the power supply on the back of the tower get switched off? If the tower powers on at all then that's not the problem, but if the tower isn't powering up then that may very well be it. If not then either the monitor isn't hooked up correctly or the video card is loose.

Does it make any noise at all? Are the fans working? Any beeping? If there is noise going on in the computer, your video card may have came loose. This is not common though. Do you know if your computer was well card for during the move? Dropping a computer is a bad thing.
