Lone Sniper: Lone Sniper is back and I strongly disagree on many of the answers here. Lets just say that middle eastern oil and expansion can be an end of the U.S but I that are the goals of the U.S.

Lone Sniper: Here is my opinion on the what will cause the demise on the U.S (not really answering my "other half's" question):
corrupt leaders
lack of love of freedom from the people
government education
illegal immigration
Islamic radicalism
dependency of foreign oil
a welfare state

"I think of a hero
as someone who understands
the degree of responsibility
that comes with his freedom."
- Bob Dylan
Q) - What will be the cause
of a superpower like the United States to FALL?
A) - COMPLACENCY Of The Citizens
Failure To MAINTAIN The Governmental Structure Of The USA
(The RESPONSIBILITY Of The CITIZENS)
Will Ensure The Destabilization
And Eventual Downfall Of This Nation
---"If the citizens neglect their duty
and place unprincipled men in office,
the government will soon be corrupted;
laws will be made not for the public good
so much as for the selfish or local purposes." :
----------Noah Webster
---"Corrupt or incompetent men
will be appointed to execute the laws;
the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men;
and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded." :
----------Noah Webster
---"If a republican government fails
to secure public prosperity and happiness,
it must be because
the citizens neglect the divine commands,
and elect bad men to make and administer the laws." :
----------Noah Webster
I Guess This Guy KNEW What He Was Talkin About,
Because It Has Become APPARENT
That We Have CORRUPT Men In Office,
Our PUBLIC REVENUES Are Being Squandered,
And The RIGHTS Of Our CITIZENS Are Being VIOLATED
And It's NOONES Fault But Our Own
Only 40 Percent Of The Eligible Voters In The USA
Exercise Their RIGHT To Vote
We Are Cutting Our Own Throats
By Allowing The "Corrupt Men"
to make and administer the laws
Although It Is OUR DUTY As CITIZENS To Do So
Millions of LAW ABIDING US CITIZENS
understand what is at stake,
and wonder what our response should be
to sedition, intimidation and acts of defiance
against our republic and our ordered liberty.

I can give you three answers to your question about the demise of the United States as a world superpower... Liberals, liberals, and Liberals.
I'm in my 60's and I remember when it wasn't so... Gold was $35 an ounce. That's $35 US currency. What do we have now? An ounce of Gold will still buy a three-piece suit. The liberals want to raise my taxes to make the economy work better? How can my having less money to spend on the economy help the economy? I rest my case. By the way, if you read my question from earlier, you will see that the person who gave me the info about the high schoolers had her own son recruited by the dems and he was only 17. She forbade him from voting because it was illegal then as it is now.

Well, Sparta fell due to exposing children, so I would say that abortion has a lot to do with the future demise of America.
Rome got into real trouble when it pulled Germanic tribes into the legions. This enabled the tribes to learn Roman tactics, and defeat Roman armies. The lack of Roman border security destroyed Rome.
Brittan fell because the people of Brittan lacked the will to continue policies of empire.
The Persian Empire fell because of the ravages of the Mongols. Iran is trying to rebuild the Persian Empire. Remember, Iranians are not Arabs....they are Persians.
The Soviet Union dissolved because the lies of the revolution did not come true. The Soviets replaced the Tsars and made things even worse.
Most empires fell to other empires. In the nuclear age, that will not happen. I see America falling as we embrace the BS of the salad bowl analogy rather than the melting pot analogy.
Did you know that under segregation 80%+ of my fellow American blacks thought America was a country worth fighting for and dying for? Today, it is under 50%. As a patriot this sickens me that our nation is being pulled apart by elements of separatism. The first martyr of the American Revolution was a Free Black Man.

When the teachers teach that your country is evil, not worth fighting for, and enough believe it the country is gone.
Italian Communist Antonio Gramsci and Herbert Marcuse, Marxist professor at Brandeis, on how to destroy America through social internal change in the Universities. The Idea was to slowly take over the hiring committees at the Universities in the 1970`s and only hire Marxists and like minded professors to replace out going Conservative professors. Black ball of Conservatives looking for jobs through repressive tolerance. Over time the institutions would become predominately Left and loathing of country would be installed under the guise of equality, and freedom of thought.. Teachers Colleges would be next and select departments like Journalism and Humanities.

There are several reasons why great empires fall, but, the most dangerous one and the one that carries the most blame is the people them selves, When people get fat and lazy, and say there is nothing I can do about what is happening. we are on our way down , And that is exactly what has happened to America today, so many people are so fat and lazy, they don't really care and won't until they wake up and they find they don't have a country, your home, car, or any thing else you may have is worthless if you don't have a country, so please lets get together and preserve it , stop wasting energy on arguing about the Dem's and Rep's as they both answer to the same master, so there is so little difference in them it is indecipherable,we have intelligent people in the U,S, so lets put some brain power to work, Remember an avalanche starts with one Little pebble rolling

the united states isn't going to fall.
!) look at all of the people here, who are interested and vocal about their concerns for the us. they are an indication that americans are not, contrary to hearsay, apathetic.
2) look at all of the people around the world who are also interested in the us, and it's continuation. another strong indicator that there is support (global even) for the us to survive
3) the present is like no past. things that brought down ancient (and other, more modern) societies, will not have the same affect today.
there have always been catastrophic wars.
there have always been corrupt officials.
there have always been degenerate citizens.
the people of the us are just like those in other countries--doing the best they can...trying to improve things for themselves and their progeny...willing to change, adapt, borrow
instead of relying so much on the media for what's going on, look to your neighbors and community.
IS everyone so wrong and awful and full of hate and despair?

The answer lies within. We will crumble from within, not without. When we stop caring about our country and its values we will fall. It's scary, but I think we are not far off from a turning point in our country. It seems everything is acceptable nowadays. We lack a strong moral fiber as a nation. If we don't get rid of or contain the absurdity of the left and acquire worldclass leadership very soon, we're in trouble.
It almost seems like people just want to give up. Being an American means respect, duty, and responsibility. None of those is found in many of us lately, at least not to our country. If we applied our efforts to our country as we apply our efforts to making more money, we'd be fine. Long answer short? What will cause us to fall? One word....GREED.

Americans started off struggling to make this country great. And now that it is a powerful, wealthy country, Americans are sitting back doing nothing but enjoying the ride. Not thinking of continuing the development. They are demanding the government provide for them, instead of helping provide for the country and further developing our economic and political status.
There is a good chance heart attacks and obesity could end it too. I don't know. Just my thoughts.

The empires you listed each fell from power for difference reasons. The Persian Empire was conquered by a superior Empire, Alexander the Great. The British Empire fell because it was bankrupted by two major wars. The Soviet Union fell because it could no longer afford to pay for its government's indulgences.
Of all the ones you listed the US is closest to the Roman Empire in terms of what will cause its ultimate fall. The reasons why the Roman empire fell are numerous and complex and could fill hundreds of books; however, I will distill the reasons why I think Rome fell.
The main reason Roman fell was that it was a victim of its own success. People always hear about how the barbarians wore down Roman defenses and eventual conquered Rome. However, there had to be a point where Rome failed and allowing the conquest to happen. Rome was the most successful empire in the sense that Romans enjoyed the highest standard of living, greatest life style, best city infrastructure, and greatest culture. Rome was truly the apex culture of the day. So much so that once the empire has established itself and moved beyond it's conquering stage to maintaining its empire. Most barbarian tribes wanted the Roman lifestyle for themselves. As the empire matured fewer native Roman citizens wanted to serve in the military, so at first to accommodate the roaming bands of barbarians that wanted to be "Roman" they were allowed to server in Roman's military in exchange for citizenship. This started to decay Rome's military, since fewer and fewer native Romans where there to keep the military strong and focused on defending Rome. With a weaken military, more and more barbarian tribes threatened Rome with invasion, but what the barbarian really wanted was to settle within the empire and have the empire protect them from other barbarian tribes. To avoid conflict Roman appeased most of these tribes and allowed them settlement rights in exchange for protecting the northern and eastern borders of the empire. But now the situation arouse where there were large swaths of non pacified, non Romans living within the empire. In the past, when Rome conquered regions what was left was a beaten people who quickly saw the benefits of being Roman. This along with the presences of a large Roman military contingent, migration of Roman citizens, and with time the presence of retired legionnaires who received plots of land as part of their military retirements rapidly converted a conquered region from a barbarian one to a Roman one. With a weaken military and the presence of a large population of people who where not truly "Roman" living within the empire, conditions were ripe for invasion and the conquest of Rome itself.
We do not have the weakened military yet, but the US certainly now has a large swath of its population, 14 million, who have come here illegally; and, unlike past immigrates who were so grateful to come to the United States that they quickly learned English and adopted the American culture, this current wave of immigrates, for the most part, lives very much separate from the rest of the country. And, of course, there is no end in site of illegal immigration. Once the military weakens, the US will fall just like Rome.
Although, this may take 50, 100, or even 150 years to happen.

Anytime an empires resources that made it a great empire are dwindling and they attempt to take those resources from another country through military action that leads to their demise.
America does not necesarrily have to have a demise like these other empires though. We can stil change course. This most likely will not happen due to our corrupt government. We need a complete and total reworking of our government and policy in order to remain on top. As it says in the constitution.
Using the Iraq war to go on, we absolutely did invade that country for oil. Oil is running out regardless of whether some want to believe that or not. That is their choice but for this thought we are going with the premise that oil is running out and in 20-30 years will cost more to get it out of the ground then it can be sold for. The family dynasty of Saudi Arabia has been going through a change for the last ten years or so, this is our main ally in the middle east oil wise and we need them. If something were to happen where our supply and control of the oil market was disrupted it would be disastrous. Iraqs oil fields are largely untapped due to the sanctions placed on saddam.
We need to install a pro US government in that country, to ensure the flow of oil in ten to fifteen years.
Uh generally though military over reach is the fall of any great empire and that is what we are doing now, and I dont know what the point to this is because most people in this country just think what they are told to. So nothing will change, people will never demand accountability of their government and they will just be kept believing that their government cares. Oh well.
