I haven't found it in the indexes to Falling Up OR A Light In The Attic OR Where The Sidewalk Ends (the regular edition not the 30th edition with 12 new poems). I own the books and made a point of looking at their indexes. And it wouldn't be in his other books (Runny Babbit, Giving Tree, Missing Piece, Lafcadio, etc.). He does have some books for adult audiences although I doubt they'd be something assigned for a child to memorize. I would doublecheck the assignment to make sure you've got the title and author right. And if you do, my suggestion would be to talk to the teacher about where to find the poem OR to talk to a librarian to see how to go about finding this poem. You should be able to find a copy of the poem in one of the books in the library and make a copy of it there.

The only poem in those three books that mention 'light' at all is the poem "A Light In The Attic."

I'm not sure, but it may be in his collection, "Where the Sidewalk Ends." I don't have his books in front of me to check this. You may want to make sure it is indeed a Silverstein poem and not one by Jack Prelutzky. Silverstein does have a poem called,
"It's Dark in Here" to which I have provided a link:

Sorry I wasn't more help--good luck!
