That's news to me!
Freddy Mercury and Queen were HUGE in America.
#1 hit after #1 hit!
Of course when you have been dead 20 years, You aren't going to get as much airplay as newer musicians - Who are trying to sell NEW albums -
But that doesn't mean we dont STILL love Freddy and Queen!

When America hears We will rock you, they think of Queen the group, not Freddie the lead singer of Queen.

What a question.

Queen rocked. Us "Americans" liked Freddie just fine.

Of course he was famous in America. Millions of people love the group Queen and still do. He had a voice that just exploded. He was so awesome, and so missed.

I agree with those posters who have said the premise of your question is wrong. He was very hot here. --No group bigger than Queen, for a while.

Where did you get the idea he wasn't? Like all entertainers who surfaced in the early-mid 70s, by decades end, his career was not as huge as it had been. But this is not to say he didn't have his moment of hugeness with the American public. He did.

During Queen's heyday (the 70's) everyone knew them but to be a success in the US musically you have to try tired formulas and basically sound like every other band. Ingenuity and true talent will be punished.

European bands slap American bands around like a red haired stepchild and this comment is coming from an American.

He was totally famous back in the day. They were a huge band with tons of great songs! It's just be a while now so it may seem like he wasn't as famous back then.
