The economy was great, Dwight D Eisenhower was president, people bought new cars every year, gas was 25 cents a gallon, there was optimism and happiness, the big war was well over. The music was rock and roll, Elvis was just emerging, people watched the Ed Sullivan Show, where the Beatles were featured. During the day housewives watched the Art Linkletter show. There were more stay at home moms than not. Kids respected their elders, women still wore dresses to the super market and of course to church. Young girls would wait until marriage, for the most part, before having sex. On the down side there was still a lot of racism, I remember going to a pizza place with a high school group, two of us were black, we were not served and were asked to leave. We had recess where the kids played during school, we had bands and orchestras, during HS gym classes we could do sports or even have a ballet class. We respected our teachers, wore nice clothes to school, anyone wearing only tennis shoes was considered poor. It was a great time to grow up. We went to the beach with our families in the summer and BBQd burgers and hot dogs, played baseball and soccer on the grass, swam in the lake, built bonfires at night. I grew up in Chicago, Wrigley field was all ablaze on the fourth of July. There was a feeling of great camaraderie that is not present today, not anywhere, and I have traveled a lot.

The nineteen fifties in rural america was hard. Farmers struggled much the same that they are struggling today. If you had a job, any job, you were lucky and you did whatever you could to keep it.
Americans were full of patriotic pride, and honored the flag and veterans. We have forgotten that our freedoms have come with a price, these days.
Clothes were more modest. Music was "big band" and the beginnings of rock and roll.

I grew up as a young boy in the 50's...Interesting time...Rock and roll was here to stay....Elvis was the King...The twist was "invented" by Chubby Checker. The Korean war was raging and Harry Truman could not end that war. The UN sent forces with the USA to combat North Korea...sound familiar today?? There was no Internet...Radio and TV and reading were the pleasures of the day...not to forget the Cinema. Electronic communication was in its Infancy. We Had dial telephones...no call waiting and no cell phones...smiles. I was shy around girls...My Mother taught me to dance....and I became "Dancing Billy"...We had many Hurricanes...Diane, Bob...a bunch...Life was simply...some of the Best automobiles were sold in the 50s, the Corvette and the Mustang. Perhaps we are a better world today...maybe;)

Hey Pig,
I did not like the music of the 1950s then and do not now. My parents struggled to make ends meet. We were just out of WWII and every one got little 1200 square foot homes.
To get money, my friends and I walked the alleys getting coke bottles for 3 cents return. Two bottles gave a nickle candy bar, with one cent left over. 5 bottles got a full bottle of RC Cola. Woo hoo.
We had 2 sets of play clothes 2 pair of shoes, and 2 sets of school clothes. We ate sparse, hardley ever out. Pizza was occasional, as was Chineese food.
Hope this helps.

The healing of that you talk of occured for the duration of the United States however used to be extra prominient within the Southern States. There have been racial rights as a ways North as Chicago and as a ways West as California. The documentation (supply) will depend on the time period that you are looking and the way a ways again the study have to cross. And possiblily the study must return very a ways, way back to the top of the Civil War. The South used to be at ease with slavery and didn't wish it abolished, the South wanted slavery to preserve to flourish because the thriving industry middle fo the U.S. Most humans within the South had an excessively low opinion of negroes. The questions must be, thereby as to why have been white humans viewed awesome, what made white humans awesome and what gave any individual that concept. The reply is that White humans have been the previous homeowners and Black humans have been the previous slaves and it's rather obvious that a few humans didn't wish to permit that cross. It gave a few humans an air of superiority. One agrument for that is the satisfactory drawback and query of the 1800s of opting for how so much blood it took to make a man or woman black or *****. There used to be the popular one-drop rule which supposed that one drop of ***** blood made a man or woman black. Why must race play a aspect in whatever? However, your query makes it appear that racism is one sided and is restricted to at least one area and that's surely incorrect. There is racism amongst all races and in all places. Example: In the United States, there were a few assaults in opposition to whites at the groundwork in their ethnicity.[14] In distinct, the Black Nationalist Nation of Islam is viewed as racist, anti-Semitic and anti-white. One might ask the query why does any individual do incorrect to a further individual after we are commanded via Jesus Christ to like one a further? The wrongful healing and the unhealthy attitudes toward any individual turns out to exist throughout each and every race and creed. Believe it or no longer white were extra badly mistreated than blacks in line with one supply. Example: Hate crimes and crime among races Most hate crimes within the United States goal sufferers at the groundwork of race or ethnicity (for Federal functions, crimes concentrating on Hispanics founded on that identification are viewed founded on ethnicity). Leading varieties of bias pointed out within the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, founded on legislation enforcement company filings are: anti-black, anti-Jewish, anti-white, anti-gay, and anti-Hispanic bias in that order in each 2004 and 2005.[17] According to an evaluation via a weblog on anti-white racism, 29,583 black Americans have been sufferers of racial & ethnic hate crime violence among 1995 and 2002, adopted via nine,346 white Americans. There are extra hate crimes in opposition to whites than in opposition to Hispanics, Asians, American-Indians and a couple of-race agencies. By distinction, the National Criminal Victimization Survey, reveals that according to capita premiums of hate crime victimization various little via race or ethnicity, and the diversities don't seem to be statistically tremendous. The reply that you simply search, if it might be responded, might concluslively reply all questions approximately hate and racism at the whole planet. You factor-blanketedly cognizance on one field and the situation isn't seculded or restricted to at least one field, the situation is global large. People appear guilty different humans for his or her predictiments. It is absolutely feasible that after the slaves have been freed that the exertions marketplace used to be drowned and made it almost not possible for white humans to uncover a task, that might be one purpose. There also are humans who hate humans without difficulty for the mere undeniable fact that the opposite humans are specific, have specific approaches, and don't seem to be effortlessly comprehensible. That is a natural detail of human nature and the one factor that turns out to erase that characteristic is schooling that is why nearly all of the situation has disappeared on account that a bigger section of the populace has emerge as informed on account that the early Seventies. There will continuously, regrettably, be a quantity of humans with loss of schooling or that small component upon which schooling would possibly not impact a deep set situation. Some are honestly taught to hate and that dislike is a discovered factor that happens at residence. The reply is sustained schooling of the humans and the continuing outreach via the church buildings to train the humans within the approaches of Jesus Christ. I wish that is helping.
