By equal, do you mean I wash the clothes and he wears them?
Or I cook the meals, and he eats them?
Or I vacuum and he walks on the carpet?
Then yes, I guess we are equal.

No lately it seems like my boyfriend has been doing alot more that I have... whoops. No we generally share all of the chores, whoever cooks doesn't have to do dishes but then we will work on laundry together. If one cleans the kitchen the other does bathrooms, we both work full time with a two year old so if we don't work as a team we are in big trouble. He has been short on work lately so he has been doing a little more to even things out .Wow this question makes me realize how fabulous this man in my life really is.. Thank you.
But I want to add.... the only reason he helps is because I work. After we get married and I stop working the chores in the house will be 95% my responsibility. Call me old fashioned but I really believe that if the wife (or husband) is stay st home it is their duty to make sure the house is clean and dinner is on the table or being made. If after the children go to bed and your spouse is there they should let you go do something so you can also unwind like go to Barnes and Noble and drink a cup of coffee and read a book or go have a drink with friends. These are just my personal thoughts.

As a Long Term Single Parent -- NO -- the chores were NOT divided equally among the family -- which included two (now adult) disabled children.
NOW ... as an Empty-Nesting Single (and Retiree) -- I am the ONLY person in my home, therefore, I do all the chores -- so FINALLY -- it is an equal distribution over the household -- since the household is a home of one!

The two of us share as we go along but well over 50 years ago at home in Ireland, my mom would give out the 'jobs to be done' irrespective of age or sex of her many children. There were no such things as 'boys' or 'girls' jobs - everything was shared. Even knitting socks. We would all sit around in a circle knitting socks (just after the war) and when we came to the heels, we would pass the needles to mom who would do the turn, then we would continue to the toes which she also completed. As a result, I can put my hand to any housework, although I hate hoovering (which we did not have when I was young) and ironing turns me off. Apart from that, anything is fair game............

Not all the chores are equally divided, but the dishwashing is....everyone has their own night to do the dishes. The toilets, sigh, thats always gonna be my job.

Well, I live alone, so I actually do everytihng. I clean house, cook every meal, maintian my car, work full time, shop for groceries, care for my yard, and work in the evenings for my BF when he is busy (about 20 hours a week on top of my full time job). So....you do what needs to be done, and realize you aren't doing EVERYTHING, maybe just more than your fair share.

You beat me to this question. I was going to post one this morning that asked "M is for Mom, not Maid, right?" but really, I don't mind. I do make the kids try to keep their room cleaned (sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't) and the hubby is in charge of the trash, but other than that, I'm chief cook and bottle washer.

When I did live at home, my sister and I did everything while my brothers sat on the bums.... I hated it. But even then I felt like I did all the work. Now that I live with my partner I like to do it all. But if I need help, she helps me. Its good.
