I work right down the street from THE ORIGINAL PANTRY, opened in 1922 and have never closed their doors. (They couldn't close them if they wanted to -- there are no locks on the doors!) I could never figure out why they call it "original" because, as far as I know, there are no other PANTRY restaurants around Los Angeles.
Slight correction about Musso and Frank's: it was founded in 1919. If I am not mistaken, it has been designated the oldest restaurant in the LA area which is still operating to this day.
By the way, I am a big fan of Philippe's, the home of the 9 cent cup of Yuban coffee and the best, mouthwatering French Dip sandwiches and tangy coleslaw this side of Heaven.
And the comment about Sitton's NoHo Diner waitresses is so funny and so true! Hilarious!

Musso & Frank's in Hollywood - been there since the 20's - known for their steaks and martinis.

North Hollywood Diner (Sittons) - with all due respect, the waitresses at that joint look like they've been on their feet for 50 years. Awesome "diner" atmosphere.

"Philippe's", just outside of Union Station where they serve the "original" French Dip Sandwich - yummy! You MUST try it if you like deli-type fare...
