i would sincerely suggest that you use the following website:

www.irctc.co.in

the site is much faster than the other ones, and also accepts various payment modes, unlike the others.

you need to register first, and after that you can log-in any time with the username/password you've chosen. it'll remember the address, so it's easy...

they have 2 facilities, one called i-ticket, through which they will courier the actual ticket to you in 2 working day. the other is called the e-ticket, through which you get an online print out, and you need to show your ID to board the train...

You better book your tickets just a couple days in advance otherwise generally last moment tickets do not leave you as many choices

ask any computerised reservation of indian railways.tell them PNR no. they will tell you status. There are kiosks on platforms. even you can findout from yuujr mobile telephone.

for any BOOKED Ticket, there is a PNR and for checking the STAUTS vis. confirmation etc. you can either check through RAILWAY Reservation Enquiry or go ONLINE and register at
