I agree with Hot hondagirl, some programs require a restart post donwload before they work properly. But you may have something else going on. I would, just to be thorough, check your PC for spyware adware and viruses. Free tools can be found at www.download.com
I suggest spybot search and destroy, adaware personal Se b Lavasoft, and spyware blaster from java cool software.
And if you have recently reformated or made any major changes to your PC, I would suggest getting the latest updates for your OS or running a repair. Or check your browser install, maybe you need to update that or reinstall.

Some programs require a restart so the settings will take affect. There is not really a way to stop it unless you tell it not to restart, however what you installed may not work correctly until a reboot is performed.
