"Network connection" refers to your Internet Connection.

it sounds to me that its no longer the ipod that's no longer working it your internet connection that's no longer letting you acquire the music, attempt syncing you ipod with different song which you have on you laptop to confirm its no longer you ipod then verify you internet connection to objective to end downloading the music.
