Two big problems are back injury and heart attack. Use an ergonomic shovel. Do back exercises all year round. Don't shovel if you're usually sedentary. Have a good aerobics program all year. Wear grips on your boots.

Snow is heavy. Be sure you are in shape before you try to shovel snow. You can die of a heart attack. Buy an ATV and put a small plow on the front, this is what I have and it is so much fun and really easy to do. Otherwise hire a teen, they need the money and they can do a great job.
Stay warm.

Are you talking shovelling or plowing? I plowed snow for 17 years and finally came to my senses. If you want advice, email me. Glad to help.

You are to bend you knees and not bend from waist; bad for your back. If you can afford it, hire someone to do it for you. Most people in my neighborhood do this; I do not. My kids and I tackle it. God, why don't I move south?
