Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Bruce Hornsby wrote a song, "Every Little Kiss," in which the lyrics "when the day goes down on the water town" are included. Bruce Hornsby and the Range recorded it on the album, "The Way It Is" released back in 1986. Sara Evans did a cover, which Bruce helped write the added portions of, which appears on her "Born to Fly" album released in 2000.

I don't know who sings the song, but whenever I need to find out that information, I go to the yahoo search engine, and type in " The sun goes down on watertown lyrics " and usually the first five or so results mentions the artist and some of the other lyrics. Give it a try! It works really well.

It is "Every Little Kiss" but it's originally by Bruce Hornsby and the Range, from their first album, "The Way It Is" in 1986.
