Eight Trigrams, or ba-gua...
in taoist families', they usually hang the mirror @ the main door of the house to ward off demons & ghosts.
according to old chinese folklores, demons & ghosts didn't know how ugly they actually look. so, if you hang the ba-gua mirror @ the main door, these entities see their own reflections & appalled @ how horrifying 'the other person' looks, will fled in fear.

No, the eight sided mirror(Ba Gua) is normally used in feng shui to ward off bad chi from entering the house. This killer chi may not only to ones directed from other people, but also by our surroundings like cross junctions or any sharp angles pointing into the house. But no,Feng shui does not have anything to do with the other side

It depends on what culture or religion you believe in. That said in my experience NO. The spirit/energy what ever is harder to get rid of than that. If it was a person at one time think of the will and emotion it took to anchor that entity here. I don't think a mirror would do much good.

What kind of ghost? Is it evil? Some spirits are just "there" like a photograph or a memory. There are ways to get rid of them. white sage, holy water, a ritual for the corners of the room. If it doesn't seem evil (does the room get cold?) maybe you could just leave it alone.

No. Why do you want to stop a ghost? Real ghosts can't harm the living. Demons are a different story. I would like more information if you have a situation that is frightening you, please.
